Kennecott distinguishes itself from other mining companies by taking the “long view” when
developing its mine projects. While producing the minerals and metals needed by society today
requires mining operations to exist, sound planning is needed to ensure the area will be healthy
and a vital part of the community in the future, once mining is completed.
To this end, Kennecott Minerals has developed technologies and methods to protect the environment, wildlife and
public while contributing to the economy and employment.
Once mining is completed, the disturbed land will be restored for future beneficial uses. Whether the land is used
for pre-mining purposes or given an entirely new design, the process of proper reclamation and ongoing stewardship
are the most important facets of the Eagle Project. To this end, Kennecott places extraordinary focus on proper
reclamation, working hand in hand with the community to determine the end result.
Kennecott's award winning efforts in reclamation can be seen at the company’s Flambeau, Wisconsin and Ridgeway,
South Carolina projects. Both are excellent examples of sustainable development, where environmental, economic and
social priorities continue to be met.
